A new look for the new normal – why lockdown caused so many companies to rebrand

A new look for the new normal – why lockdown caused so many companies to rebrand

United Kingdom
  • Housing Hand launches a new brand and new services in midst of COVID crisis
  • Move reflects trend for brands to look inward during lockdown and focus on their core values
  • Emphasis on creating something positive out of coronavirus pandemic
  • Housing Hand still able to operate during the COVID crisis, continuing to offer guarantees and help

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused companies up and down the UK (and elsewhere) to look inward like never before. With staff working from home or furloughed, many management teams have taken the opportunity to review their internal processes, customer engagement strategies, services offerings and more.

UK rent guarantor service Housing Hand is one business that continued to operate during the crisis and used the lockdown time productively. The company has rebranded and launched a new website packed with additional features, in a move displaying determination to create something positive out of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We’re living through extremely worrying times right now, with both health and financial concerns weighing heavily on many individuals, families and businesses. For companies, the need to adapt to the new normal has been intense. At Housing Hand, we’ve used the lockdown to focus on our brand, our values and make some exciting improvements to the services that we offer through our website.

Jeremy Robinson, Group Managing Director, Housing Hand

Housing Hand’s fresh website includes a new pricing guide to enable students and working professionals to get a free quote prior to applying for a rent guarantor, along with a booking system for arranging meetings and calls with the company’s helpful team via their website. Not only that, but the enhanced House Finder service sends out thousands of free leads to Housing Hand’s partners.

Housing Hand’s new look for the new normal sees ‘Percy the pigeon’ walking applicants through the site’s contents in pursuit of their new ‘nest,’ whether that’s student accommodation or a private rental property.

“We were able to continue operating during COVID, using the time to re-strategise and realign to our core company values. We’re so happy that we’ve launched a fully rebranded website that enhances the user experience and makes it even easier for individuals from around the world to access the information that they need on how to apply for a UK rent guarantor.”

Jeremy Robinson, Group Managing Director, Housing Hand

News of the rebrand comes hot on the heels of Housing Hand’s acquisition of the UK Guarantor website, further cementing its position as the country’s leading rent guarantor firm. A referral partnership between Housing Hand and property platform Accommodation for Students has also just been revealed.

Spanish second home buyers to live in Harmony with nature at new Taylor Wimpey España development

Spain ,
  • €13.5 million Harmony apartments launched at La Cala Golf Resort
  • 56 luxury apartments to provide panoramic golf, sea and mountain views
  • Over 320 homes already built by Taylor Wimpey España at La Cala

Leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey España has revealed its latest development – the stunning Harmony apartments at La Cala Golf Resort on the Costa del Sol. The development enjoys the highest location at La Cala, meaning the homes will deliver panoramic golf, sea and mountain views.

Harmony will provide 56 luxury homes spread across six buildings, including two- and three-bedroom apartments and three-bedroom penthouses and duplexes. It is the latest development resulting from the €120 million joint venture between Taylor Wimpey España and FBD Leisure (owners of La Cala), which has already delivered over 320 homes.

We are delighted to reveal details of Harmony, which has been designed to make the most of its incredible natural setting. We’ve included particularly large terraces for outdoor dining and relaxation, all set against the stunning backdrop of the Sierra de Mijas, with the Mediterranean Sea sparkling in the distance.”

Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director of Taylor Wimpey España

Available from €295,000 plus VAT, the bright, airy homes will offer open plan interiors that are filled with light. The site will also feature a large communal pool and pretty communal gardens. Ground floor homes will have private gardens, as well as terraces, and every property will have its own underground parking space and storage room.

The Taylor Wimpey España and FBD Leisure partnership will see a total of 1,000 homes built at La Cala over the course of the next decade. The resort, which TripAdvisor ranks as one of the ten best golf resorts in Spain for 2020, is a favourite with golfers across Europe, including a significant number of players from the UK.

“The announcement of the Harmony Development is hugely significant. While these are extraordinarily challenging times for the local economy, we remain as determined as ever to invest in the future, and cement La Cala’s position as a bucket-list destination for golfers across Europe.”

Taylor Wimpey España reveals 3 unexpected ways COVID has impacted second homes

Taylor Wimpey España reveals 3 unexpected ways COVID has impacted second homes

Spain ,
  • Healthcare and solo sports now both more relevant to second home buyers
  • Potential as longer-term lockdown bolthole not far from buyers’ minds
  • 25% of people more likely to move home due to pandemic, with Spain one of most popular destinations (Knight Frank)

Leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey España has spent more than 60 years satisfying clients’ wishes when it comes to what they want out of a second home. However, it seems that the COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to some unusual requirements.

“It’s a given that COVID-19 has caused buyers to want more spacious properties and decent WiFi connections, when they are looking at potential second homes, but we’ve seen buyer requirements and behaviour shift in other ways too. It’s as though the lines between second homes and main residences have begun to blur.”

Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director of Taylor Wimpey España

Buyers are now looking at second homes in a different light, analysing their potential for use as a lockdown bolthole for months at a time at very short notice. That includes the potential to work fulltime from their holiday home for several months, should they need to. This means that everything from the stability of the WiFi connection to the size of the fridge and wardrobes is being considered from a new perspective.

Key-ready homes at Grand View, on the Costa del Sol’s well-known La Cala Golf resort, are ideal for buyers looking through this lens. Available from €290,000 plus VAT, the apartments provide a quality lifestyle in peaceful surroundings with stunning views – perfect for those looking for a semi-permanent residence in which to wait out a lockdown.

The second unexpected buyer focus is healthcare. No longer is it only those who buy a second home when approaching retirement who take an interest in the quality of the local medical facilities. Instead, buyers of all ages are now having to factor this into their analysis of potential properties.

Spain certainly fares well in this respect. Not only did the 2019 Bloomberg Healthiest Country Index rank Spain as the world’s healthiest nation, but the country is also renowned for the quality of its public and private healthcare facilities. Not usually something that second home buyers paid much attention to, this requirement has understandably increased in importance in recent months.

Indeed, this and Spain’s other attractions have singled the country out not just as a second home bolthole but also as a destination of choice for those seeking a more permanent relocation. According to Knight Frank’s latest research, based on a survey of 44 countries, 25% of people are more likely to move home in the next year as a result of the pandemic, with 34% of those individuals looking at moving abroad. For those who were more inclined to move abroad, 17% chose Spain as their ideal location (only the UK scored more highly, at 30%).

“Spain has so much to offer not just second home buyers but also those looking to settle fulltime. The weather, cuisine, scenery and cost of living are all extremely attractive – and in many cases more so as a direct result of the pandemic.”

Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director of Taylor Wimpey España

This brings us round to the third requirement that buyers now want from their second homes – socially distanced sporting options. While Spain’s golf courses have always attracted second home buyers from the UK and a range of other countries, there’s now also plenty of interest in everything from tennis to nautical sports, as buyers seek out the ideal combination of keeping fit while also avoiding other people.

This is where Pier 1 fits the bill. The exclusive apartments, which boast private pools for the ground floor and penthouse homes, are situated on the doorstep of La Marina de Sotogrande. The frontline marina properties therefore provide easy access to sailing, surfing, kayaking and other nautical pursuits, as well as on-site golf. Prices start from €1,365,000 plus VAT for a four-bedroom apartment.

Housing Hand acquires UK Guarantor website and secures partnership with Accommodation for Students

Housing Hand acquires UK Guarantor website and secures partnership with Accommodation for Students

United Kingdom
  • UK’s leading rent guarantor firm acquires the website of the country’s second largest service
  • Housing Hand has covered more than £646 million in rent since 2013
  • Accommodation for Students partnership to support students across UK

The COVID-19 lockdown has been an exceptionally busy time for the team at Housing Hand. The UK’s largest rent guarantor firm has just announced that it has acquired ukguarantor.com. Student Marketing Agency Ltd, who previously operated the website will no longer process guarantor applications but will continue to manage existing guarantor commitments and support Housing Hand in the smooth transition of new applicants.  The move means that Housing Hand will be taking over all of UK Guarantor’s new and renewal applications (previous matters will still be dealt with by Student Marketing Agency Ltd).

The new arrangements will build on the foundation that Housing Hand has already built. The company has helped and processed 87,764 applicants since 2013, working with more than 3,500 accommodation providers. The total rent covered in that time has topped £646 million.

We are delighted to have acquired the UK Guarantor website to serve even more tenants and students across the UK. Through this and the new partnership with Accommodation for Students, we will offer an enhanced, UK-wide service that enables individuals to rent the properties of their choice without needing to find thousands of pounds for a deposit.

Jeremy Robinson, Group Managing Director, Housing Hand

We’re living in unprecedented times and the need for guarantor services has never been more acute. We will be working closely with Housing Hand to ensure a smooth transition for new applicants. Housing Hand provide an invaluable resource for many of those who are already facing additional pressures in their lives.

Nick Emms, UK Guarantor

Housing Hand acts as a guarantor for students and other renters who otherwise would not have one. Housing Hand liaises with the potential landlord, letting agent or university in order to make the necessary arrangements. Renters who would otherwise be asked to stump up six to 12 months’ rent in advance are thus spared the difficulty of having to do so. The service costs from as little as £295, with payment by instalments also available.

In order to streamline the guarantor process, Housing Hand is built into many accommodation providers’ booking forms. This is where the new partnership with Accommodation for Students comes in. A property platform for students, Accommodation for Students acts as a referral partner for UK Guarantor – and now for Housing Hand. The arrangement means that students in need of a guarantor are provided with an established, trustworthy service that can enable them to access the accommodation they desire.

“As the UK’s number one student accommodation website, we are thrilled to be working in partnership with Housing Hand. Together, we aim to ensure that those studying at the UK’s world-renowned universities are able to access appropriate accommodation throughout their higher education.”

Simon Thompson, Managing Director, Accommodation for Students

Finding a way forward as part of the ‘new normal’ has seen many organisations innovate and form new alliances in order to adapt. Housing Hand has used the experience to take the next step in its history, enabling it to support the ongoing stability of the UK rental sector.

Burrough Court launches Zoom Rooms as part of ‘new normal’ business package

Burrough Court launches Zoom Rooms as part of ‘new normal’ business package

United Kingdom

Rural business premises and office accommodation provider Burrough Court has revealed it is launching new ‘Zoom Rooms’ for its clients to use free of charge. The launch is part of a raft of measures designed to adapt the new normal that office life requires as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Zoom Rooms at the family-run business provide private, professional spaces for clients to use to host virtual meetings that they would otherwise have held face-to-face. The spaces undergo regular deep cleaning and comply with site-wide usage of hand sanitiser, sanitising wipes and other safety measures.

“We’re looking to embrace the changes that are resulting from COVID-19 as an opportunity, rather than a challenge. From working in partnership with one of our tenants to produce ‘corona hinges’ that hold external doors open for touch-free access to setting up the Zoom Rooms to enable our clients to host professional meetings, we are doing all we can to turn challenges into chances to innovate.”

COVID-conscious buyers opting for new build homes in exclusive Spanish enclaves

COVID-conscious buyers opting for new build homes in exclusive Spanish enclaves

Spain ,
  • New build property prices up 6.1% year-on-year in Q1 2020 (INE)
  • British buyers focussing on upscale resorts and premium properties (Taylor Wimpey España)
  • Ability to customise seen as one of key attractions

The second home market is alive and well in Spain, albeit in a more subdued fashion than before the COVID-19 outbreak, according to leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey España. The company reports that buyers are prioritising new build apartments as they seek a share of the Spanish sunshine, with newly built homes delivering a range of advantages that particularly suit the new wave of COVID-conscious buyers.

“Right now, we’re seeing buyers looking for generously sized new builds with multiple private outdoor areas and spacious communal grounds. They’re also interested in nearby open-air activities, from golf to yachting, as well as easy access to Spain’s fabulous beaches. For COVID-conscious buyers, the ability to personalise their new home by buying off plan is also important – the pandemic has made many families focus intently on internal layout and the way that they use their home.”

Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director of Taylor Wimpey España

Taylor Wimpey España’s findings were echoed by those of Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE). It reported a rise in the country’s property price index of 3.2% for the first quarter of 2020, when compared with Q1 2019. For new build homes, however, that figure jumped to 6.1% year-on-year. Second-hand properties, meanwhile, saw a year-on-year rise of just 2.7% for the same period.

New build homes come with a range of advantages. Those buying off plan have more time and greater financial flexibility, due to the staged nature of the payments, as well as the potential to personalise their home as part of the build. They also have the potential to benefit from better prices.

They can opt for the perfect property by choosing from a range of options, such as two- or three-bedrooms, ground floor or penthouse, and golf views or sea views.  They can also enjoy modern facilities, from communal pools and gardens to storerooms, lifts and garages, as well as integrated WiFi/fibre ADSL in the home as standard.

Buyers of newly built homes can buy with a clear conscience, thanks to the properties’ energy efficiency and certification, and with peace of mind, thanks to the guarantees that come with such properties. Knowing that they won’t have to undertake renovations and the sometimes-spiralling costs associated with them is also a bonus.

“There are so many reasons why new build homes trump second hand residences, from the financial side of the purchase process to the more emotional aspects of investing in a second home overseas.”

Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director of Taylor Wimpey España

According to Taylor Wimpey España, it is premium properties in upscale areas that are particularly drawing attention from British buyers right now. The company’s Pier developments in Sotogrande are the subject of keen interest.

The newly launched Pier 1 offers luxury and privacy, in a gated development of just four marvellous frontline apartments at La Marina de Sotogrande, with private pools for the ground floor and penthouse homes. The four-bedroom apartments are priced from €1,365,000 plus VAT.

Pier 2, meanwhile, delivers stylish elegance across its two- and three-bedroom homes. The site, which is nearing completion, features pools and communal garden areas for relaxation, as well as the private outdoor space provided by each home. Prices start from €360,000 plus VAT for a two-bedroom apartment.

Pier’s local facilities are second to none. The next-door yacht club keeps the nautically minded happy, while the on-site golf and the beach just 400 metres away provide plenty of space for keeping fit and healthy outdoors.

Sotogrande is also known for its world-class Santa María Polo Club and this year, Taylor Wimpey España is one of the sponsors of the prestigious 49th International MANSION Polo Tournament, which runs from 25 July to 31 August.

“Polo is inextricably linked with the history of Sotogrande, so we are delighted to be sponsoring this year’s International Polo Tournament. Attracting interest from around the world, the Bronze, Silver and Gold Cups make up one of the main summer season events in Andalusia.”

Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director of Taylor Wimpey España

The other development that is striking a chord with British buyers in particular right now is Emerald Greens, at the heart of the nearby San Roque Club. With outstanding golf facilities on-site and superb views of the gently undulating landscape as it slopes down to the sea, these homes are ideal for buyers looking for fresh air and tranquillity in a stunning setting. Prices begin at €296,000 plus VAT.

British developer Taylor Wimpey completes capital raise to purchase land for post-COVID build

Spain ,
  • British developer raises £522 million, with sights set on building in Spain
  • Spanish subsidiary Taylor Wimpey España has already launched two post-COVID developments
  • Further sites to come to market before end of 2020

“The real estate sector will be key to the economic recovery of our country after the effects of COVID-19.”

Javier Ballester, General Director, Taylor Wimpey España

Leading British developer Taylor Wimpey, which last year completed 15,719 homes, has carried out a capital raise in the UK worth £522 million (€578 million euros) for the purchase of new land. Subsidiary Taylor Wimpey Spain will lead a number of new operations as a result, with investments in key hotspots along the Spanish coast, where it has been building and selling new homes to national and international clients for the past 60 years.

“During the last years we have built a solid business and have invested in our people, with our own processes and resources, to add value to our clients, shareholders, employees and suppliers. We have made timely decisions to increase our liquidity, being flexible to face the effects caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now we see an opportunity to invest in new land and businesses at attractive prices. These investments will help us continue to grow sustainably and provide long-term value for shareholders.”

Peter Redfern, CEO, Taylor Wimpey PLC

Taylor Wimpey España is one of Spain’s most respected and credible developers, having served over 7,000 satisfied customers from 40 different nationalities over the past six decades. The company’s area of operations stretches from the Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol to Mallorca and Ibiza, serving both domestic Spanish homebuyers and international clients looking for second residences on the Spanish coast. During 2019, the developer delivered 323 homes in Spain, with a turnover of over €141 million.

Javier Ballester, General Director of Taylor Wimpey España, has indicated that the real estate sector will be a major factor in Spain’s economic recovery from the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasising his company’s role in improving the economic situation as swiftly as possible.

Taylor Wimpey España has continued to build in recent months and has already launched two post-pandemic developments: the lovely Kiruna Hills at Alenda Golf in Alicante and an exclusive collection of four waterfront luxury apartments at Marina de Sotogrande, Pier 1.

“We have recently released two new real estate developments to the market, and we hope to release two more before the end of the year. After this capital increase operation carried out by the parent company, we will also be focusing on additional carefully chosen sites in highly prized locations.”

Taylor Wimpey España launches two new developments, as positivity returns to Spanish second homes market

Taylor Wimpey España launches two new developments, as positivity returns to Spanish second homes market

Spain ,
  • Kiruna Hills and Pier 1 will provide buyers with an array of choice
  • Air bridge with Spain providing Britons with easy access to sunshine once more
  • Ryanair flights running at 67% full even before air bridges announced

Leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey España has announced the launch of two brand new developments, in the latest sign that Spain is returning to some kind of normal. Kiruna Hills, at Alenda Golf, Alicante, and Pier 1, at the prestigious Marina de Sotogrande on the Costa del Sol will provide second home buyers with plenty of choice as the Spanish property market gets back into the swing of things once more.

Summer holidays in Spain aren’t quite business as usual just yet, but they’re certainly looking a lot closer to it than many would have imagined a couple of months ago. With travel restrictions lifted by Spain and the UK exempting those flying in from there from having to enter quarantine for 14 days, the scene has been set for Britons to enjoy sun-kissed summer holidays once more.

Even before the Spanish air bridge was announced, Ryanair’s first wave of flights to numerous international destinations on 1 July were running two-thirds full, with 105,000 passengers jetting off for some much-needed rest and relaxation after months of being stuck in the UK.

Many airlines are ramping up their flights to Spain for the summer season in response to customer demand. Mallorca has proven to be of particular interest, according to Travelsupermarket, after the island acted as a testbed for safe travel prior to the rest of Spain opening up. The price comparison site reported a 96% increase in online searches for trips to Mallorca following the government in Spain bringing forward the date that it would reopen to international visitors.

“It’s certainly going to be an unusual summer in Spain in many ways, but the sunshine, stunning beaches and superb gastronomy are still here, meaning that those who do come to Spain for their holidays this year have plenty to look forward to. For second home owners, Spain offers a welcome relief from the stresses of daily life – as it has always done – with the outdoor lifestyle holding huge appeal. All of this contributed to our decision to launch two new developments this month, providing plenty of choice for those looking to buy a bolthole in Spain.”

Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director of Taylor Wimpey España

The two developments are substantially different, though both will encompass Taylor Wimpey España’s signature blend of stylish indoor/outdoor living, with communal pools and gardens and outstanding locations.

On the Costa Blanca, Kiruna Hills will be ideal for keen golfers, thanks to its prime position at the popular Alenda Golf Club. The 36 contemporary townhouses will feature landscaped gardens and spacious solariums with stunning views over the Sierra de las Aguilas. Prices start from €193,800 plus VAT.

Over on the Costa del Sol, meanwhile, Pier 1 will provide three premium apartments and one penthouse in a private gated community next door to Sotogrande’s yacht club. The frontline marina homes are ideal for buyers who are serious about luxury. The four bedroom/five bathroom layout is complemented by large terraces, with the ground floor and penthouse apartments each having private pools. Prices start from €1,365,000 plus VAT.

“We feel that it will be important to offer buyers a particularly wide range of choice when it comes to property size, type, facilities and location over the coming years. Many buyers are now looking at second homes from a different perspective. They still want a home that’s ideal for creating cherished family memories, but elements such as private outdoor space and nearby open-air sports and leisure facilities have taken on a particular importance.”

Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director of Taylor Wimpey España

For buyers looking for key-ready homes where they could potentially see out a second wave lockdown, Kiruna Hills’ neighbouring site, Kiruna Residencial, is ideal. Not only do residents have Alenda Golf on site, but a selection of stunning beaches are just 15 minutes away, as is Alicante Airport. The homes offer spacious living with access to a small supermarket, restaurant and bar, clubhouse, fitness centre and paddle tennis courts, as well as the outstanding golfing facilities. The final two three-bedroom townhouses are available from €189,000 plus VAT.

Taylor Wimpey España reveals second homes for the new normal, as Spain lifts Brits’ quarantine

Taylor Wimpey España reveals second homes for the new normal, as Spain lifts Brits’ quarantine

Spain ,
  • Quarantine on British visitors to Spain lifted from 21 June
  • UK visitors to Taylor Wimpey España website up 88% in May
  • Larger homes, on-site sports facilities and plentiful outdoor space topping buyers’ wish lists

Spain has lifted its requirement for British visitors arriving in the country to enter quarantine. From 21 June, Brits travelling to Spain no longer have to self-isolate and will instead undergo temperature checks and register to enable tracing. Arrangements are also being put in place to allocate regional locations for the treatment and isolation of any visitors who may need it. Visitors, along with local residents, can now also travel between the different Spanish provinces as lockdown restrictions continue to ease.

For Spain’s 400,000 British second home owners, the news has come as a welcome relief. Leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey España is aware that many owners are now looking at their second homes with a new mindset, wondering if a winter second wave spent locked down in the Spanish sunshine might be more enjoyable than one spent in the cold and rain of the UK. Visitor numbers to the company’s website certainly reflect this increased desire to visit Spain, with UK visitors up 88% in May, compared with the same month in 2019.

According to the Taylor Wimpey España team, those currently considering purchasing a home in Spain are certainly thinking carefully about the kinds of facilities that would best suit them in the event of future lockdowns. Potential buyers are looking at everything from larger homes with private gardens to those with terraces that offer inspirational views. Pools, communal gardens and on-site and local sports facilities are also coming under scrutiny, as are the tranquillity of the development and its proximity to key amenities such as supermarkets and pharmacies.

“Taylor Wimpey España has been building homes in Spain for more than 60 years. During that time we’ve served over 7,000 clients, covering 40 different nationalities. We’re well used to adapting our developments to changing needs and to ensuring that buyers’ expectations aren’t only met but exceeded at every stage of the purchase process through our customised service. COVID-19 has presented some unique challenges, but we’re well positioned to overcome them and to provide the homes that buyers need under the new normal.”

Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director of Taylor Wimpey España

One development that ticks all of the right boxes is Grand View, where key-ready homes are available from €290,000 plus VAT. Named for its spectacular outlook, which delivers panoramic views of the golf courses at La Cala Golf and the mountains of Mijas, the private, gated development comes with communal gardens and swimming pool. From sun-filled apartments to penthouses with spacious solariums, the homes are ideal for those considering battening down the hatches for an extended period in Spain, as well as for holiday use. The fully open golf and spa facilities at La Cala Golf further add to the attractions of Grand View.

Off-plan homes at La Cala Golf are available as well as key-ready apartments, with Sun Valley offering apartments at the top of the renowned Europa golf course, with views stretching over the course and down to the sea. The south- and southwest-facing apartments will provide spacious surroundings designed to deliver the perfect blend of indoor and outdoor living, as befits such a sunny location. Large terraces and glass balcony enclosures allow for full enjoyment of the fabulous views, which also include the communal pool and gardens. Prices start from €241,000 plus VAT.

“While much of the property industry froze during the lockdown, we’re seeing sales start to pick up again now, albeit slowly as a result of the ongoing travel and movement restrictions. With inter-province travel now permitted and the dropping of the quarantine requirement for British visitors, we expect keen interest over the summer months, as buyers get to grips with their refocused priorities under the new normal.”

Spain opens for summer, as arrivals quarantine dropped from 1 July

Spain opens for summer, as arrivals quarantine dropped from 1 July

Spain ,
  • Outdoor Spanish lifestyle is ideal for social distancing (Taylor Wimpey España)
  • Sunshine, golf, beaches and open-air dining likely to win over tourists this summer
  • 65% increase in UK visitors to Taylor Wimpey España website in last 3 months

On 25 May, Spain announced that the two-week quarantine period for arrivals into the country would be dropped as of 1 July. This is excellent news for the country’s tourism sector, which accounts for more than 12% of Spanish GDP.

Spain has already relaxed a range of lockdown measures, with the result that life in the sun-kissed holiday destination is moving towards a new kind of normal. And, as leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey España points out, the country is ideally suited to those looking to pursue a more socially distant life.

With beaches, golf courses and restaurants with terraces all open for business once more, Spain has plenty of leisure options to offer those visiting. The fantastic sunny weather means that it’s the perfect time to enjoy the great outdoors and there’s a real sense of gearing up for the summer season now, which felt almost unimaginable just a few weeks ago.”

Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director of Taylor Wimpey España

Some 80 million tourists visit Spain every year, though 2020 is going to be a notable exception. While visits to major cities may not hold quite the same appeal, walks along the beach and a few rounds of golf in the sunshine seem like the perfect antidote to the cabin fever of lockdown.

At Taylor Wimpey España, the new normal is becoming established already. The company’s sales offices are open once more, for pre-booked viewings with strictly limited attendee numbers. Masks and gloves are compulsory and available at every site, while each show home is cleaned thoroughly between visits. Several appointments have already been booked, both by domestic buyers and by foreigners already living in the area.

“We’re working hard to ensure that those who want to view our show homes can do so safely and enjoy the experience. We’ve also introduced a fully refundable deposit of €3,300 for the duration of the Spanish ‘alert’ status, for those buyers who need a little longer to make up their minds in the current circumstances. The deposit is fully refundable for up to 60 days, to give buyers plenty of time to decide on proceeding with their purchase.”

Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director of Taylor Wimpey España

Figures from the company highlight the keen interest that those in the UK still have in Spanish second homes. Web visitors from the UK have risen by 65% over the past three months. Growth in April alone was up 56% when compared with the same month a year previously.

This significant pent up demand is further reflected by the number of leads, which were double in April what they were in February. Properties of interest include Pier, in Cadiz, and Recoleta III in the Costa Blanca.

Pier is a stunning collection of exclusive, key-ready penthouses and apartments in La Marina de Sotogrande. In addition to beautiful marina views, the homes offer pools and garden areas as part of a private, gated community. Prices start from €360,000 plus VAT for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom home with over 40m2 of outdoor space.

Homes are also ready to move into at La Recoleta III, in Punta Prima (Torrevieja) on the Costa Blanca. Available from €200,000 plus VAT, the bright, sunny apartments offer easy access to the beach and sea, just metres away. All of the two- and three-bedroom homes have private terraces, while owners also enjoy exclusive use of La Recoleta’s outdoor pool and gardens.

Spain’s islands are also working towards opening for the summer season, with Palma Tourism Board Manager Pedro Homar reporting that hoteliers on the island have been, “working through different scenarios to ensure that they are able to follow government advice and guarantee the safety of all their staff and clients, as well as being able to get up and running as soon as possible.”

Mallorca has long been a favourite destination with holiday home owners looking for beautiful scenery, a superb gastronomic scene and plenty of options for sports and leisure pursuits. One of Taylor Wimpey España’s loveliest developments on the island is Blue Cove, a collection of key-ready, frontline homes at Cala Lliteras. A variety of layouts provide something for every buyer, from ground floor garden apartments to penthouses with solarium terraces and spectacular views over the turquoise, crystalline waters of the bay. Prices start from €345,000 plus VAT.

“Spain is getting ready for summer once more. It’s likely to be a different kind of summer than we’re used to, but certainly one where visitors appreciate dining al fresco on the terrace and enjoying the outdoor lifestyle like never before.”
